The ex-Kilkenny player will join the Kildare senior management team in 2027
Former Kilkenny All-Ireland winner Matthew Ruth has joined Brian Dowling’s Kildare senior hurling management team.
Ruth, who will replace Conor O’Shea as a coach with the Lilywhites, won four All-Irelands in black and amber as well as three senior championships with his native James Stephens.
The Village man joins his fellow county man who has been ratified for a further three years as the county’s senior hurling manager.
Since taking charge in 2023, Dowling led the Leinster county to success in both the Christy Ring and Joe McDonagh Cups, while also gaining Kildare promotion to Division 1B.
The pair join a lengthy list of former Kilkenny players who have made their mark on Kildare hurling as managers or selectors, stretching back almost 20 years to Andy Comerford and, more recently, David Herity.
“We look forward to the next three years with Brian (Dowling) and wish him and the team all the success going forward,” a Kildare GAA spokesperson said.
