Families Divided - Two cousins and prominent Kilkenny hurlers to face off in city derby this weekend!

Cousins Cillian Hackett (Dicksboro) and Cian Kenny (James Stephens) could face off against one another in Group A of the St Canice's Credit Union Senior Hurling League with the city sides due face off in St John's Park at 4pm on Saturday.

Both players have featured at county level for Kilkenny at U20 and Senior levels respectively this year and will be eager to pick up two crucial points when their clubs clash this weekend.

Dicksboro lost out to Tullaroan in a cracking opening match of the senior hurling league on Friday night, while Kenny notched 0-2 in the Village's loss to new boys Thomastown the following day.

However, as players, the pair have made great strides in their hurling careers since playing in All-Ireland Finals in the backgarden many moons ago...

Kenny made his Kilkenny senior debut in 2022 and has won three Leinster titles and featured in two All-Ireland Finals. The 23 year old is the great-Grandson of Mick Kenny who played centre-forward for Kilkenny in 1957.

Meanwhile, Hackett showed positive signs for the Kilkenny U20s this year despite the Cats' disappointing exit to eventual All-Ireland champions Offaly and is slowing becoming a mainstay in the Dicksboro team. The Maynooth student is also no stranger to divided family loyalties, playing against his dad Paddy (Lisdowney) in a junior match in 2022. On the day, Cillian scored 1-1 and his dad notched 1-2.
