'I feel sorry him' - Kilkenny player sidelined after 'unfortunate' injury blow

The Kilkenny panel celebrate after this year's Leinster final

Kilkenny senior hurling manager, Derek Lyng has provided updates on a number of his key players ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final with Tipperary.

The Cats fell at the semi-final hurdle to eventual champions Clare last year, while The Premier County have not featured in the last four pairings since they took home the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2019.

Kilkenny's quest to end an almost decade long wait for hurling's top prize hasn't been helped by a number of injuries throughout the season, with Dicksboro's Harry Shine now expected to spend an extended period on the sideline.

"We've lost Harry Shine, he did his ACL last week in training which is unfortunate for him, particularly at this stage of his career, but at the same time, he's done a huge amount of work and he'll get his head down and hopefully have surgery in the next couple of weeks," Lyng told a media event in UPMC Nowlan Park on Monday.

"He's going to have a road ahead of him but he'll get through that as well," he continued.

"It's unfortunate to lose him, I feel sorry for him but he'll be back at some stage but unfortunately this season is over."

The absence of Shine is yet another blow to the Kilkenny panel on the injury front, following news that Marty Murphy picked up a hamstring injury last week. - READ MORE HERE

In further team-news, Kilkenny Live understands Mossy Keoghan has sustained a hamstring strain but it's not believed to be serious or have a bearing on team-selection for this weekend.

Meanwhile, the Kilkenny boss also shed some light on the progress of forward Eoin Cody, who has missed a portion of the season due to injury.

"Eoin (Cody) is available for selection again so he's come through the last few weeks, he's done well and worked hard. Even in the run up to the Leinster final, he was pushing hard," he said, adding, "thankfully he's come through now.
