Tipperary forward Darragh McCarthy was dismissed with a second yellow card just before the hour mark against Kilkenny in Croke Park.
Tipp went down to 14 men after the moment of madness in which McCarthy made a needless loose slap of the hurley on Kilkenny goalkeeper Eoin Murphy. The youngster, who was previously red carded againt Cork before that match even began, has now a second red card in this year's championship.
The moment appeared to galvanise the Premier County, with the team digging deep to overpower the Cats, who went looking for a goal in the final moments. Kilkenny couldn't make the extra man work to their advantage sufficiently.
