The Fine Gael Party has selected three candidates to contest the upcoming General Election in Carlow-Kilkenny.
Catherine Callaghan, Cllr David Fitzgerald and Cllr Michael Doyle will all run for a seat. The latter two will be no strangers to Kilkenny voters, having successfully contested local elections here on multiple occasions.

Cllr David Fitzgerald served two terms as Mayor of Kilkenny, in 2011 and 2022, and also a term as Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council. He was first elected to Kilkenny Borough Council on his first attempt in 2009. Most recently (2024), he was elected on the first count,with 1,231 votes. He previously ran in the 2016 General Election and 2015 By-Election, garnering a solid vote but missing out on both occasions.
Cllr Michael Doyle will be contesting a General Election for the first time. He recently held his seat in the 2024 local elections in the Callan-Thomastown area. He previously served as Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, municipal district chairman in the Callan Thomastown area, and Mayor of Kilkenny on one occasion.
Cllr Doyle was first elected to Kilkenny County Council in 2014 in the former local electoral area of Kilkenny City East. Living in The Rower, he is married to Becky and they have two children.
Catherine Callaghan is Carlow-based, and recently contested the local elections. She lost out on the final seat in the Tullow Local Election Area by a single vote.
