Cllr David Fitzgerald, who is a Carlow Kilkenny Fine Gael candidate for the next general election, joined Taoiseach Simon Harris and Fine Gael TDs last week for a two-day party think-in at the Tullamore Court Hotel.
And the local councillor said he had time to talk to the Taoiseach about his priorities for Kilkenny city and county if elected to Dáil Éireann following the upcoming general election, including the completion of the north ring road.
“The theme of last week’s think-in was “new team, new energy” and there is certainly a feeling that, under Taoiseach Simon Harris, Fine Gael is in a state of renewal. The energy last week was palpable and, as one new face with new ideas, I felt very welcome. Simon Harris has brought great energy to the party since becoming Taoiseach and there are many things he wants to accomplish if the party is returned to government for a new term after the general election”, commented Cllr Fitzgerald.
“I had time with the Taoiseach during the think-in and he knows and supports my priorities as a hopeful Fine Gael TD for Kilkenny. These include the completion of the north ring road, greater childcare support for families, housing and financially sustainable farming.”, he added.
David has led the campaign to locate the new National Veterinary College on the Kildalton Agricultural College campus at Piltown, in Co Kilkenny.
Cllr Fitzgerald is one of 23 new Fine Gael candidates contesting the next general election. With John Paul Phelan TD stepping down, Cllr Fitzgerald said he hopes the people of Kilkenny continue to have strong representation in government. “I feel I have a lot to give and I hope I have the chance to represent the people of Carlow Kilkenny in the next Dáil”, he said.
