According to PhoneWatch, recent CSO recorded crime statistics have shown that burglaries in the Kilkenny/Carlow region have decreased by 15%, with over 9,000 homeowners in Ireland experiencing a burglary in the past 12 months.
Over the years research has always shown that this is the time of year for increased burglaries, so the message from PhoneWatch is very clear, now is the time to get winter ready and get your home protected.
“The past 12 months have shown a welcome decrease in our burglary levels nationally, however, we should bear in mind that we are coming into the period when typically, burglaries are at their highest, and our homes are most vulnerable,” said Eoin Dunne, Managing Director of PhoneWatch
“We know that 58% of Irish homeowners fear burglary most in the winter months. At PhoneWatch we are all about peace of mind and ensuring this concern is reduced as much as possible.”
PhoneWatch has devised some home security tips to ensure your home, and everyone inside it, is protected this winter.
They are advising people to always ensure their windows and doors are locked, as well as their garden sheds and vehicles.
They say to not leave your house keys outside and instead ensure your neighbour has a spare set in case of an emergency.
PhoneWatch are also advising people to ensure their home is lit up, leaving a light on to make it appears as if someone is home.
If you are away from your home for several days, they advise you ask a trusted neighbour to take out your bins and bring in your post, so that it doesn’t pile up outside and look as if there is nobody home.
PhoneWatch strongly advises people to get a home alarm system and to use it.
