The Bard Out Of My Mind launch takes place in the beautiful Wild Flower Café between 2- 5pm on Saturday the 9th of December in the Butler Gallery Kilkenny city.
The countdown to Christmas is on and a new creative Kilkenny based business has the perfect home grown gift. Bard Out Of My Mind is a poetry business established by Gareth Hanlon at the tail end of 2023. It was following a number of critically acclaimed open mic performances at the Alternative Kilkenny Arts festival in August and the launch of his self-published poetry book, “Too Bard Out Of My Mind”, that Gareth decided to set up an experiential poetry based business.
One of the first pieces written for this new venture was ‘Cill Chainnaigh’. From its opening line, ‘Irelands True capital The Marble city I asked?’, to its closing, ‘Visit Smithwick’s brewery for a few red Ales, Kilkenny Cats laugh, while spinning their tales’. Gareth manages to capture the charm and attractions of Kilkenny with an easy going light-heartedness and relevance.
In his own words, “I have created an interesting collection of rhyming wisdom to entertain near and afar. The nuanced cadence of each poetic flavouring combines observation, wisdom and layers of understanding to inspire and cultivate new thinking”, Gareth enthuses. I wanted to write pieces that would be of interest to tourists in relation to their experiences while in Ireland.
Bard Out Of My Mind has three distinct poetic stylings. There are poems based on the unique features of cities in Ireland with a hint of fun added to the mix. There are also regional poems referencing the wider attractions and experiences of Ireland. Then there is the rather quirky PoeTea collection. A series of poems based on the inherent benefits of drinking tea. Here, clever naming of each piece makes for fun and interesting reading, for example, PuriTea, TranquiliTea, LongeviTea and SereniTea, to name but a few. “I particularly like the decorative
PoeTea collection and I believe these will become excellent conversation pieces in the various cafes across Ireland”, Gareth explains.
“While the poems are interesting for tourists as a keepsake of their visit to Ireland. They also have an appeal for locals and the extended Irish Diaspora”, says Gareth. The poems will be available online via www.boomm.ie from January 2024.
