The curtain has closed on Panto 2024 - what an unbelievable two weeks it was. Full of sold-out performances bursting with fun, laughter, singing, dancing, amazing talent, memories were made to last a lifetime!
An enormous amount of work, organisation and creativity goes into Watergate’s annual panto - oh yes it does! This year’s show, Aladdin, saw a cast and crew totalling over 110 children and adults from Kilkenny and surrounding areas bring the script written by Kilkenny native Mark Duffy to life on the Watergate stage for 13 sold-out performances.
The Watergate also held its first ever relaxed performance which allowed audience members who benefit from a more relaxed performance the opportunity to enjoy Panto all the greater this year.
The Watergate Theatre is a registered charity, which is funded by The Arts Council and Kilkenny County Council. The Watergate Panto is the main annual fundraiser for the theatre and so the Watergate wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to all involved for their hard work, time and dedication and to all audience members for the continued support.
The panto was directed by David Doyle, musical director, Emer Harnett; choreographer, Roisin Currid; production Manager: Sarah Brennan and set design, John O’ Donoghue.
Meanwhile Watergate Theatre is delighted to announce its continued support of Asylum Productions as Watergate Theatre artists in residence for 2024.
In more good news for the Watergate this year sees Asylum presenting a new promenade street show inspired by the history of the Rural Electrification Scheme, with an eye to the future of grid decarbonisation in Ireland.
In partnership with The Watergate, Asylum will also begin work on developing a new large scale show in Kilkenny for 2025.
Through that partnership Asylum and Watergate will continue building relationships with regional theatre artists in both community and professional contexts.
The residency will also allow Asylum to look strategically at the future of our company and our place in the broader arts ecology of the South East.
