One man arrested following high speed chase yesterday evening

Suspect set to appear before special sitting of Kilkenny District Court

A man in his twenties will appear before a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court later this morning.

The man was arrested last night following a high speed chase yesterday evening.

A garda spokesman said that a group of men were observed acting suspiciously in a large silver car in the centre of Kilkenny City yesterday afternoon at approximately 4pm.

When the group were approached by gardaí they drove off and a high speed chase ensued. The car was abandoned a short time later close to Paulstown and at least three men fled the vehicle and ran into nearby fields.

During a search of the area one man was arrested and he was detained at Kilkenny Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was charged and will appear before a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court later this morning in relation to a number of theft offences.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed any persons acting suspiciously in the area yesterday evening or today to contact them on (056) 777 5000 and the search for the remaining suspects remains a live investigation.
