Interpretive panel structures depicting the history of Kilkenny have been removed as part of ongoing improvement works at Ossory Bridge in Kilkenny City.
Councillor David Fitzgerald has expressed his disappointment at their removal but is also hopeful that future plans to replicate them will be realised.
"Disappointing to see the historic panel sculptures on Ossory Bridge removed during the improvement works," he said.
"I am reassured moulds of the artwork will be used to replicate the structure."
It is understood that the local authority will have the panels replicated through its own public art management working group.
The works at the bridge had been delayed in recent weeks due to structural issues but are back on schedule now.
When completed, it will significantly improve accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
