Kilkenny County Council issue statement as local woman faces life in mouldy home

Kilkenny County Council have issued a statement to Kilkenny Live following our report into a local woman living in adverse conditions.

"Kilkenny Council County has a policy of not discussing individual cases concerning housing  maintenance works.  As a local authority we have a housing stock in excess of 2,800 units and endeavour to work in partnership with tenants based on tenancy agreements and the shared responsibilities of the tenant handbook," a council spokesperson told Kilkenny Live.

"We offer maintenance tips directly to  tenants concerning items sure as condensation, minimising moisture spread and heating/energy conservation.  We provide an effective maintenance response service assessing nearly 7,000 maintenance requests in 2024.

"Kilkenny County Council provide both planned and responsive maintenance works to existing stock utilising funding through our planned maintenance programme, energy retrofit programme and housing adaption grant scheme," the council spokesperson concluded.
