Crucial safety improvements on busy Kilkenny road to be completed by the end of 2026- Dollard

Cllr Maria Dollard welcomes confirmation of road safety works to be completed by end of 2026
Long-awaited safety improvement works on the Tullaroan Road in Kilkenny are due to be completed this year, a local councillor says.
Cllr Maria Dollard said the works, first sought through her motion to Kilkenny County Council in January 2026, will be completed before the end of the year.
In recent days, another life was lost on the road. Cllr Dollard extended her deepest sympathies to the family, friends and all those affected by the tragedy.
“Our thoughts remain with everyone impacted by the recent fatal collision. It has deeply affected the local community, and we remember those who are grieving at this difficult time,” she said.
The Green Party councillor stressed that the road safety improvements were pursued months before the recent tragedy, having raised concerns through a formal motion at the January meeting of Kilkenny County Council after hearing consistent concerns from local residents and road users.
“Road safety has been a longstanding concern in this area. I brought this motion before the council in January because residents had repeatedly highlighted the need for improvements,” she said.
“While no single project can remove all risk from our roads, every investment that makes our roads safer is an important step forward.”
Following continued engagement with the Kilkenny City Municipal District over the last six months, Cllr Dollard says she has now received confirmation that the planned safety works will be delivered by the end of 2026.
“I welcome the council’s commitment to delivering these works this year and I want to thank the Roads Section for progressing the project,” she said. “I also want to acknowledge the local community, whose persistence in raising these concerns has helped keep road safety firmly on the agenda.”
Cllr Dollard said she will continue to work with residents and council officials to ensure that road safety remains a priority across the city and county.
“We owe it to every family and every road user to continue investing in safer roads. While this confirmation is welcome, our work to improve road safety must continue.”
