Cllr Eugene McGuinness has called on Kilkenny County Council to be extra vigilant around the city's seating areas

Cllr Eugene McGuinness has called on Kilkenny County Council to be 'extra vigilant' around seating areas at the Market Yard following a spike in littering incidents.

Cllr McGuinness criticised some young people’s attitude towards littering who "seem to care little about the mess they leave behind," stating he has witnessed first hand rubbish dumped on tables or on the ground by teenagers wearing school uniforms.

"Littering is and should be prosecuted," he said, adding, "we should ensure that they (seating areas) are kept clean, tidy and safe particularly as we spend so much money promoting Kilkenny as a tourist destination."
