New facilities set to be erected at Kilkenny City soccer pitch

The news has been widely welcomed amongst the soccer community in Kilkenny
Upgrade works on the Garringreen football pitch in Kilkenny City have received the green light, pending a vote from city based councillors.
If passed, the upgrades will include new railings, a running track and dressing rooms.
At present, both Ormonde Villa and St John’s play their home Kilkenny & District League matches on the site, with anti-social behaviour and dog fouling causing difficulties in recent years.
“From knocking at doors for signatures, followed by a number of meetings with Frank Stafford and his team we have finally reached the stage where this proposal will go before my fellow councillors at this Fridays meeting, where hopefully it will be fully supported,” Cllr Eugene McGuinness posted in a message to followers on Wednesday evening.
“Proper facilities such as these will help clubs to expand and encourage more young kids into sport,” he added.
Councillors are expected to vote on the proposal at Friday’s meeting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District.
