Vehicles recorded travelling at more than 100km/hr in 50km/hr zone in Kilkenny

A new driver speed feedback sign has been put in place on the Bennettsbridge Road in Kilkenny City in a bid to encourage drivers to obey the 50km/hr speed limit in place there.

It was revealed earlier today (Tuesday) that some vehicles have been recorded doing speeds of 100km/hr and more when travelling down the hill from the Ring Road roundabout in the Black Quarry area.

This update was provided to local councillors by Area Engineer Ian Gardner.

Gardner told elected officials that driver feedback signs are useful for alerting drivers who may not be fully aware of just how fast they are going.

Mayor Joe Malone stated that he was 'not shocked' when provided with the update, adding that he's seen speeding on the road first-hand.

"More needs to be done to discourage this behaviour," he said.
