State agency seizes net in bid to tackle 'illegal fishing' in Kilkenny

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) recently seized a net in South Kilkenny after a night time-dawn boat patrol.

The net was seized by staff on patrol in the upper Suir estuary.

The seizure comes as IFI bids to ramp up efforts to combat illegal fishing.

"Boat patrols, covert cameras, drone patrols and other surveillance continue to be used to tackle illegal fishing in the area," an IFI spokesperson said.
