Gardaí offering €82k starting salary for civilian role based in Kilkenny

An Garda Síochána is seeking to recruit a civilian Employee Relations Manager based in Kilkenny, with a starting salary of €82,290.

The position, at Assistant Principal (AP) level, has been advertised as a permanent role and forms part of the organisation’s employee relations and industrial relations structure.

According to the job listing, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing assistance, advice and representation on industrial relations matters within their region.

The role will involve engaging with employment issues as they arise and supporting positive industrial relations across the organisation.

Key responsibilities include negotiating agreements, resolving employment disputes and implementing policies, as well as representing the organisation in proceedings before the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC), the Labour Court and mediation or arbitration processes under the Civil Service Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme.

The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and the terms and conditions applicable to employees, while developing working relationships with staff associations and unions.

The role will involve contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation as part of the senior management team, including identifying industrial relations priorities and assisting with business planning, policy development and risk management.

The Employee Relations Manager will also work closely with other functional areas across An Garda Síochána and report to the Head of Industrial Relations.

Applicants must have a third-level qualification and at least four years’ experience in a human resources or industrial relations environment.

Candidates must also demonstrate experience working within the industrial relations machinery of the state, including representation at WRC adjudication or conciliation services and the Labour Court.

Other essential requirements include experience providing guidance on employment law, policies and compliance, as well as a full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle, as national travel may be required as part of the role.

Experience in an industrial relations or HR advisory role within the public service, a legal qualification, or Mediation Institute of Ireland accreditation are listed as desirable but not essential.
