Kilkenny skies to light up with meteor shower (Image courtesy of NASA)
The Leonid meteor shower is expected to peak tonight and tomorrow night in the night sky above Kilkenny, promising incredible action for local astronomy enthusiasts.
Classically, the shower peaks each year in mid-November. Typically, Leonid activity starts around November 14, peaks around November 17, and ends around November 21.
Skies are predicted to be party cloudy for most of tonight over Kilkenny but there should still be some great swathes of clear skies where meteors can be spotted.
If you really want to see more of the action, it's best to skygaze away from artificial lighting in urban areas.
The Leonids are a spectacular meteor shower associated with the comet Tempel–Tuttle.
The shower gets the name from the location of their radiant in the constellation Leo as they appear to radiate from that point in the sky.
