Hurling greats tee-off for Kilkenny - Tipperary golf challenge

Have you got DNA Type Urlingford? Well if you do (whether by choice or by chance or out of affection!)  your support is needed for the upcoming Cross Border Challenge!

Urlingford Town Team and their friends in Emeralds GAA Club have teamed up to hold the 2023 Cross Border Golf Classic.

County senior hurling managers Derek Lyng and Liam Cahill are again lending their support to the event this year, leading the Kilkenny and Tipperary teams in the challenge!

The event will take place in Rathdowney Golf Club and will run over two days - Friday/Saturday, 11/12th August. The format will be a 'Scramble' and teams can line out for their county for a chance to win the perpetual Cross Border Cup - which was won by Tipperary in 2022!

Not only will the funds raised from the event support  the ongoing efforts of the Urlingford Town Team (UTT) to capitalise on opportunities to improve the quality of life for everybody in the community, but it's also an opportunity to show your support for the Emeralds GAA Club, which is at the heart of  social and cultural life in the town.

Cost of entry is €180 per team, and that includes a meal. To book in contact 0851043873 or see https://www.urlingfordtt.com

With the help of support for last year's Golf Classic,  the UTT has been able to make substantial progress:

  • Planning to open the doors of the Remote Working Hub - Exit 4- in the autumn;
  • Plans for Phase 1 of the refurbishment of the Community Centre, formerly the Parochial Hall, are well underway, thanks to an award of €300,000 from the Department of Rural and Community Development. Now Phase 1 refurbishments is at  the e-tender stage and the project is on course to meet a deadline of the end of January 2024.
  • Urlingford has been chosen to pilot the Government's new Town Centre First Plan Strategy and a draft Masterplan for the town will shortly be presented to the Kilkenny Municipal District Council.
    See the website https://www.urlingfordtt.com  for more details.

 UTT are hoping that as many as possible will take part in the Golf Classic and for those who can’t be there in person, they can still have a real stake in the outcome by sponsoring the event.
