The water supply in an area of north Kilkenny has been described as “deplorable at times,” by a local councillor.
Speaking at the March meeting of the Castlecomer municipal district councillors, Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh called for action to improve the public water supply in the Johnstown area.
“In all my career as a politician this is the most frustrating issue I have had to deal with,” Cllr Cavangh expressed her frustration with the ongoing issues.
The Fine Gael councillor who is based in the Crosspatrick area, also expressed her frustration with Uisce Eireann (formerly Irish Water).
“They don’t liaise with us,” she said, adding that Uisce Eireann don’t need to investigate the issues in Johnstown because the people who live there are constantly telling them they have low pressure in their supply.
Booster Pumps
Cllr Cavangh said the local people are asking for booster pumps to strengthen the pressure in their water supply, especially in the Donoghmore area.
She went on to say that now there is a fear in the area that when residents move into the new houses in the area the water pressure will get lower again. Cllr Cavanagh asked that the council write to Uisce Eireann in support of her demands.
Cllr Michael McCarthy said he agreed “wholeheartedly.” He described the water condition in the area as “deplorable” adding that the “pressure is atrocious at times.”
