Raised platforms should be installed on all approach roads to Johnstown because of “crazy” speeding, according to one north Kilkenny councillor.
Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh made the call at the recent meeting of the Castlecomer area municipal councillors.
“My biggest concern for the Johnstown, at the moment, is the speeding, it’s crazy!” she said. “I don’t think drivers realise, if they knock someone down they will have to live with it for the rest of their lives,” she added.
Cllr Cavanagh said she had previously been told that ramps could not be installed on that road, so she was now calling for raised platforms on the approach roads to the town.
“It’s a must,” she said.
Area Engineer, Phillippe Beubry, said this could be considered for a low cost safety scheme for next year.
Municipal district chairman, Cllr Michael Delaney, said “even lorries are travelling at excessive speed” in the area and “it’s only a matter of time until someone is hurt.”
There was support from Cllrs Michael McCarthy, Pat Fitzpatrick and John Brennan.
