A north Kilkenny councillor has called for the installation of passing bays along a heavily trafficked section of a local road, citing safety concerns and the need to improve traffic flow.
In a motion raised at the most recent sitting of the Castlecomer Municipal District, Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick claimed the volume of heavy goods traffic using the stretch of road at Esker in Jenkinstown is causing ‘serious difficulty’ for the local community and action is needed.

Last week, €22million for regional roads was alotted by the Department of Transport for Kilkenny.
A total of €7 million has been allocated for national roads and €10 million for regional roads in County Kilkenny. In response, a spokesperson from the Roads Section of Kilkenny County Council confirmed the local authority were investigating the matter and would update in due course.
