TAP '>' ARROW ABOVE TO BROWSE PICS
When it was constructed, The Sessions House was noted as the earliest purpose-built civic structure in Thomastown.
With that in mind, the challenge to renovate and restore it, was a huge undertaking.
Prior to the start of the project, it was a dark, damp and uninviting space. A smell of decay sat heavy in the air and light in many of the corridors was limited.
The challenge was added to by the fact that the building was located on a highly restricted site, with limited access , both front and rear.
What could be salvaged was salvaged, including, amongst many other items, the 1920s stairwell, original fireplaces, and tiled flooring.
Layout alterations to the interior of the building were sympathetic to its history, and also allowed for the creation of additional space.

The Sessions House has now realised its potential as a National Centre of Excellence for Jewellery and Goldsmithing.
That would not have been possible without the many hands of the on-site workers, who brought the vision to life with skill and resolve.
Access to the Bridewell at the rear of the building, where prisoners used to be held, was also improved.
Looking forward, this building may well serve a future role as an on-site exhibition space, but that’s a project for another day.
