Four more housing estates taken in charge by Kilkenny County Council

Breagagh Court

Four more housing estates in Kilkenny were taken in charge by the local authority at the October meeting of Kilkenny County Council.

These estates were Breagagh Court and Patrick's Gate in Kilkenny City, Abbeygate in Ferrybank and The Belfry in Thomastown.

The term 'taken in charge' means that the local authority now assumes responsibility for certain services located within the common areas and public areas associated with a particular estate.

When a residential development is completed to the satisfaction of the local authority, the developer or the majority of home owners may make a written request to the Planning Department to have the estate taken in charge.

It should be noted that when an estate is taken in charge, the roads servicing that estate are declared public roads and the estate must remain un-gated.
