Former Kilkenny councillor, Mellisa O'Neill, has died aged 54

Former Kilkenny councillor, Melissa O'Neill, died on Monday, September 15, 2025 - peacefully, in the tender care of her loving family and all the staff at The South East Palliative Care Centre, Oak Ward, University Hospital Waterford.

O'Neill (originally from Bruff, County Limerick) became a prominent voice in local politics in the Ferrybank and South Kilkenny area following her election as a local councillor back in 2014.

Predeceased by her parents Paddy and Mary, Melissa will be sadly missed by her son Shane, daughter Chloe, grandson Leo, Shane's Dad Michael, brothers Richard and Pat, sisters Yvonne, Shirley, Maria, Sandra and Fiona, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Melissa will be reposing in Powers Funeral Home, Ferrybank on Wednesday, September 17, from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.

Melissa's removal will take place on Thursday, September 18, walking from her home to The Sacred Heart Church, Ferrybank, arriving for Requiem Mass at 10am, after which Melissa will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

House private at all times please.
