Farewell to Fr Brian - a poem
Today a parish unites, to bid farewell to a great friend
Brian: as you take your leave; this message we send
Thank you for the memories, however big or small
Your selfless nature; left its mark on one and all
Our parish priest in Kilmacow for more than 24 years,
You shared with us the good times, and wiped away our tears
Whether a message from the altar or a chance meet up on the street
You were always influential; a greater gentleman you could not meet
Outside your life’s vocation we got to know the man
You enjoyed so many hobbies, regularly breaking into song
Many a good story from your card playing days, could no doubt be told
And he who shared the latest joke; that was considered gold!
The best memories we have of you, so much in contention
Your devotion to the sick; would be amiss not to mention.
A gentle knock on a person’s door, a quiet word or silent prayer
Gave them the strength to carry on, just knowing you were there
In Kilmacow on May 21st a bright light went out
So saddened to think you will no longer be seen out and about
From your family, Kilmacow parish and friends far and wide
We salute you and say thank you for always being by our side
Saddened now as we grieve our loss
But forever grateful for our paths they did cross
Previous memories of the good times we hold
As stories of Fr. Brian with love ever told
Mile buiochas as ucht iarracht a dhéanamh d’ar bpobal beag.
Codladh samh ar gcara dilis, ta d’obair sa saol deanta
Ar Dheis De go raibh a anam
