Thomastown Primary Care Centre set to open before summer

Kilkenny Kilkenny

Thomastown

A long-awaited primary care centre is set to open in Thomastown in the coming months.

Final fit-out and equipment installation is taking place and it is hoped to open the centre by the start of the summer.

Local councillor Peter Chap Cleere, who is a member of the HSE Regional Health forum, has expressed his delight at the progression of the state-of-the-art, brand new primary care centre for Thomastown.

"This is a project that has been ongoing for quite sometime and it's fantastic to see the finish line in sight," Cllr Cleere said.

South East Community Healthcare is committed to the provision of a Primary Care Centre in Thomastown.  The state of the art centre was handed over to the HSE in December 2021.  Currently the centre is being prepared for service provision in Q2 2022 with completion of the process of equipping and installation of IT equipment.

There is overwhelming international evidence demonstrating that robust primary care systems are associated with improved healthcare outcomes in the community. Primary Care service provision is the bed rock of our new modern health service.

This new centre will be a game changer for Thomastown and its environs. They provide an easy access point to local health services such as GPs, physiotherapy, public health nursing,  occupational therapy, speech and language therapy services, dental services, and support for chronic illnesses such as cardiac, diabetes, and respiratory.

Access to such a Primary Care Centre accommodation will facilitate the optimum environment for the further development of Primary Care  services whilst creating a supportive environment to facilitate structured approaches to chronic disease management, enhanced multi-disciplinary working and integration between primary, secondary and tertiary services.
