For the first time in ten days, the Fire and Rescue Service is reporting there are no active fires on Slievenamon, in the area affected by the wildfire on the Kilkenny Tipperary border.

An update this morning (Thursday) says the Slievenamon wildfire remains stable as monitoring and management operations continue.

“There are currently no active fire lines on the mountain. The overall situation on Slievenamon remains stable, with Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service and Coillte continuing to monitor and manage the affected area, supported by aerial resources as required,” said a spokesperson.

While significant progress has been made in stabilising the incident, isolated hotspots may remain within the affected area. As is typical following a wildfire of this scale, occasional flare-ups may occur until substantial rainfall thoroughly dampens the ground and vegetation. Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service continues to liaise with Met Éireann, and, at present, only light showers are forecast in the coming days.

Any reports of smoke or fire activity will continue to be assessed and responded to as required.

Members of the public can be reassured that there is currently no risk to life or property arising from this incident.

The public is thanked for its continued cooperation, support and vigilance while monitoring and response operations continue.
