Kilkenny fell to a third defeat in four league games as Cork overpowered the Cats in a one sided affair at UPMC Nowlan Park.

It was a repeat of last August's All-Ireland Final but with the hosts shorn of the likes of Denise Gaule, Miriam Walsh and Katie Nolan, it was always going to be a tough task for Brian Dowling's side.

That's how things turned out with the Rebels easing clear to win by 10 points in the end as they remain very much in contention for league honours.

Kilkenny on the other hand remain stuck on one win ahead of their final game with Tipperary next weekend.

The defending All-Ireland champions had started brightly and led 0-3 to 0-1 by the fifth minute with Sophie O'Dwyer, Kellyann Doyle and Steffi Fitzgerald finding their range.

Cork soon worked their way into the game and with Amy O'Connor, Cliona Healy, and Fiona Keating firing on all cylinders, the Rebels led 0-12 to 0-7 at the interval.

Cork's advantage soon reached double figures at the beginning of the second half and while Julianne Malone gave Kilkenny hope with a well taken goal, the comeback never materialised.

O'Dwyer, Katie Power and Aoife Prendergast kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Cats but Cork were much too good on the day and they won pulling up in the end.

For a full report on the game, see this week's Kilkenny People Newspaper.
