Kilkenny golf to remember old friends

The annual memorial service for members and former members of Kilkenny golf club who passed during the year will be in the Clubhouse on Thursday week (8pm).
MIXED: The Christmas mixed is on Sunday, December 2. It will be sponsored by James Walsh Toyota dealers.
The sheet for names is posted inside the Bar door. The draw will be made on Saturday, December 1 (6pm) and no deletions can be made to the sheet.
Participants are requested to sign in by 10.15am on Sunday morning for a shotgun start at 11am. The cost is €15, which includes a hot plate after golf.
CAPTAINS’ DINNER: The joint Captains’ dinner (Tom Sloyan and Mary Hickey) will be in The Clubhouse on Saturday, December 8.
Guests are requested to attend at 7.30pm with a view to sitting down at 8pm for dinner. There will be entertainment by Liam McCormack following the meal.
Dress is informal. Tickets cost €35.
The list for members wishing to attend is on the notice board, inside the bar door.

BAR HOURS: The Winter bar hours are - Sunday, Monday and Wednesday 11pm; Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 6.30pm.
These time are subject to change according to the demands of business.
WINTER HANDICAPS: With the Winter competitions in full swing, members who feature in the top three places will incur a Winter handicap adjustment.
These adjustments will vary according to the handicap categories.
It is the sole responsibility of each individual to check their new temporary handicap and play off the adjusted one for the duration of the Winter (to March 1, 2019).
Members featuring in the weekend competitions are subject to these adjustments and must play off same in the Saturday Crosscard.
Failure to make the correct adjustment will result in disqualification from that competition. There are no reductions applied to the winners of the weekly Crosscard.
The Competition Secretary’s decision will be final in all matters pertaining to this temporary handicap system.

COURSE NEWS: The erection of the protective stanchions and ropes around greens has been completed. These stanchions are to protect the greens/fringes.
Members are reminded not to step on or over the ropes. All should access the greens through the gap provided.
No caddy cars or buggies are permitted beyond these points.
If a players swing is affected by the ropes he/she may seek relief by taking a free drop, not nearer the hole.
If, having taken relief, your ball strikes the rope/stanchion with your next shot it is considered as ‘a rub of the green’ and must be played from where it comes to rest.

GOWRAN PARK
There has been a surge in memberships at Gowran Park GC, resulting in an extension of offers.
The club has an under-30s rate of €435, full membership is €600 while fees for the senior golfer (70+) are €510.

SINGLES: The weekly open singles competition continues this week.
Every week the top three qualifiers will go forward to the final, which features a top prize of a free golf membership for 2019. Entry is €20 for visitors and €7 for members. Bookings online or from 056-7726699.

MEETING: The annual meeting of the golf club will be held on Friday, December 7.
Nominations, motions or open letters must be returned to the Honorary Secretary for inclusion at the meeting by no later than Friday, December 1.
GALA: The club will hold its Christmas Gala day on Sunday, December 2. Names must be included on the timesheet by 2pm on Saturday, December 1. The gala will have a 12.30pm shotgun start.
LADIES: Team C continues to hold their lead in the Kathleen Whitehead League. They are at the top of the table with 257pts, followed by Team D with 254pts.

Seamus Fitzpatrick and Simon Williams tasted victory when they beat T.J. Dowling and John Coffey 5&4 in the final of the club matchplay doubles competition at Mountain View GC.
In the singles matchplay Tommy Phelan has qualified for the final. He now awaits the winner of the second semi-final between Simon Williams and Thomas Kinsella.

CASTLECOMER
The 19th annual meeting of the men’s club of Castlecomer GC will be held in the clubhouse tomorrow (Thursday) at 8pm.
The ladies club will hold their annual meeting in the clubhouse on Sunday at 6pm. Meanwhile the joint club’s annual meeting will be held in the clubhouse on December 13 at 8pm.
PARTY: Men’s Captain Seamus Brennan and Lady Captain Margaret O’Keeffe invite members to their joint Christmas Party, which will be held at 7.30pm on December 1.
Tickets for the party, which includes punch reception and a three-course meal, can be bought from the captains, clubhouse bar or at the office on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays.
Presentations to the ladies and gents golfers of the year and club matchplay champion will be made on the night, which will also feature musical from Seán Kenny. Admission is by ticket only.
WINTER LEAGUE: All details pertaining to the team Winter league have been posted on the noticeboards at the computer desk. Round one has already started and continues until Sunday.

The Captains’ dinner, which was held on Saturday evening, was a great success at Callan GC.
Thanks went to the organising committee and to the catering team for the food served on the night. Congratulations went to all who picked up prizes on the night.
