"Fr Eamonn O'Gorman has been a deeply valued and spiritual leader, offering unwavering support, compassion and dedication to the people he serves," a spokesperson said.
"His presence has greatly enriched our communities, and his departure would be a profound loss to many.
"With heart felt sincerity, we ask that this decision be reviewed in light of the strong pastoral bond he has formed with us all," they added.
Meanwhile, Kilkenny Live readers in the area have shared their disappointment over the news.
"There will be a lot of people very sorry to see Father O Gorman leave Ballyragget, he certainly was a friend to all," one person said, with another commenting, "Fr O' Gorman will be very much missed he is a true people person, wishing him all the best in your new parish."
