The Donnys
It’s just a short journey from Kilkenny to Stradbally, in Laois, for this weekend’s Electric Picnic, but for two of Kilkenny’s music acts it’s a giant leap forward for their musical careers.
City rockers The Donnys are lined up to play the Salty Dog stage, deep in the The Salty Dog Stage an actual shipwreck located deep in the Stradbally woods!
Hailed as starting a ‘rock Renaissance,’ The Donnys have become a familiar sound in Kilkenny over the last year and with an EP audience about to experience their stage show their future is bright!
They’re joined on the Salty Dog stage line up by top Irish acts including Bronagh Gallagher and Cathy Davey.
Another Kilkenny act topping off an extraordinary year by appearing at EP this weekend is Burnchurch.
The sibling group have been lined up to feature on An Chollchoill, the Irish language stage.
In the last week alone, they have composed music for an upcoming radio drama on KCLR and have translated their own original English language songs for their weekend gig on the Irish language stage at Stradbally.
Although they’ve had a busy summer, performing the 2023 Kilkenny hurling song on television and at the homecoming event, their real focus has been writing rehearsing what’s promising to be a powerful debut album of original material. They describe their sound as ‘new Irish popular music’, which draws on elements such as uileann pipes and traditional rhythms.
