Kilkenny Whiskey Guild has won the Global Icon of Whisky Award, just months after being crowned the Irish Bar Group Of The Year.
Guild Manager Cyril Briscoe said that 'the award is a fantastic recognition for The Guild on the global stage and a reflection of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved'.
Guild co-chair Jim Rafferty said that the award recognises the Guild's efforts to promote Irish whiskey and provide a high-quality whiskey experience for visitors to Kilkenny.
Guild co-chair Eddie Langton hailed the award as a significant achievement for Kilkenny Whiskey Guild that highlights the city's status as a premier destination for whiskey lovers.
On the Icons of Whisky results, Christopher Coates, editor-at-large of Whisky Magazine and chair of judges, said that the 17th annual Icons of Whisky awards saw the stiffest competition yet.
"The experiences offered by the top whisky bars, retailers and attractions today are truly world-class and have become bywords for hospitality and tourism excellence beyond just the drinks sphere," he said.
About The Kilkenny Whiskey Guild
The Kilkenny Whiskey Guild is a collection of ten establishments throughout Ireland's Medieval capital.
Each premises stocks a minimum of sixty Irish whiskeys and enhances the customer experience through having knowledgeable staff, tasting flights, food pairings and mixology.
Regular whiskey events are held in each of the Guild Houses designed to heighten the public’s knowledge of Irish whiskey history, production and various styles.
The guild aims to make Kilkenny the leading whiskey tourism destination in Ireland.
The first written account of distilling in Ireland comes from Kilkenny in the 14th century with the Red Book of Ossory and the Kilkenny Whiskey Guild are celebrating and highlighting this history.
