Amber Women’s Refuge in Kilkenny has reported an overall rise in the number of women it accommodated in refuge in 2024.
Approximately 60 women received refuge at Amber in 2024 compared to 40 women in 2023.
This is also an increase on the 2021 figures which showed that 36 women received refuge, a 9% increase on 2020.
Refuge
According to a spokesperson for Amber Women’s Refuge the service also recorded a marked increase in the amount of women over 60 years of age who sought and received refuge throughout 2024.
Detailed statistics across all the services will be included in the annual report, which is expected to be published over the coming months.
Amber, is a Kilkenny-based organisation working to empower women and children of all cultures and backgrounds to live abuse-free lives.
Safeguard
As a specialist domestic abuse service Amber’s professional team works alongside others to safeguard women and children against domestic abuse, including coercive control.
