Members and supporters in The Rower Inistioge GAA Club have been left deeply saddened to hear of the passing of a "true GAA man,"  and beloved former president of the club, Dick Bolger.

Mr Bolger born in 1929, was a founder member of the Rower Inistioge Club in 1955 and played right half back in the Clubs first ever competitive adult game that year. He went on to won an All Ireland Junior medal with Kilkenny in 1956 and scored the winning goal in the final against London, becoming the first Rower Inistioge man to win an All Ireland medal.

Mr Bolger was also a selector when the club won the senior championship in 1968, and in 1969 was a selector with Kilkenny when Eddie Keher captained the team to All Ireland success. He was a selector with the Club senior team for many years throughout the 1970's and 80's and with Kilkenny again in the mid seventies.

"Dick was a passionate supporter of both The Rower Inistioge Club and Kilkenny and in his life time he got to witness his club and county win both county and All-Ireland titles," a club spokesperson said.

"He was always around the club, ever present at Club games and training sessions and was willing to help out in any way he could and was a wise head at many an Executive meeting down through the years.

"Dick's great love of Gaelic games was passed onto his family, and enjoyed many great days as they represented the Club with distinction on numerous  hurling, football and camogie teams," they added.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis," the club spokesperson concluded.
