CK United announce high-profile signing of former FAI Cup winner

Ethan Boyle also brings Champions League and Europa League qualifying experience
CK United have secured their biggest signing yet as seasoned League of Ireland defender Ethan Boyle was announced on Wednesday evening.
With more than 250 LOI appearances, including over 150 in the Premier Division, under his belt for Shamrock Rovers, Finn Harps, Wexford FC and Waterford FC, Boyle’s signature represents a major statement of intent from United as they make preparations for the National League kick-off next month.
The right-sided defender has also lined out for Linfield and Carrick Rangers NIFL Premiership, taken part in multiple Champions League and Europa League qualifying campaigns and was part of Rovers’ FAI Cup winning squad in 2019.
The 29-year-old’s leadership qualities are sure to be invaluable to United’s young squad with Boyle previously serving as captain of Wexford.
Speaking to the club’s social media pages, Manager Tom O’Connor was keen to see his newest recruit in action.
“I’m looking forward to getting to work with Ethan alongside the rest of the squad, believing his abilities and experience will have a positive impact both on and off the pitch,” he outlined.
The marquee signing added to an already busy week for the Carlow/Kilkenny club with the number of confirmed players for its senior squad now standing at 13.
Kilkenny-native Adam Coyne was brought in from Waterford FC on Sunday while midfielder Jordan Harmon signed from New Oak Boys FC in Carlow on the same day.
Additionally, United also announced the first promotions to the senior squad from their youth setup as Liam McDonnell, Isaac Emmanuel, Timmy Adeleye and goalkeeper Darragh O’Neill are poised to make the step-up in advance of the National League.
Fixtures for the FAI’s new third-tier are slated for release towards the end of this month, with the shortened inaugural season expected to get underway at the end of August.
