Tullogher Rosbercon 1-26 Carrickshock 1-24 (After Extra-Time)
There was a dramatic ending to the round 1 intermediate hurling championship clash between Tullogher Rosbercon and Carrickshock with Danny Glennon finding the net with the last puck of the game as Tullogher grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat in a contest that went all the way to extra-time.
It was the opposite to what happened at the end of normal when Tullogher looked to have the win in the bag until Conor Farrell drilled a stoppage time free to the net and it proved to be nip and tuck from there all the way through the extra 20 minutes.
Former Kilkenny hurling star Michael Rice had a huge impact off the bench for Carrickshock and he looked to have won the game before Glennon pounced to score the winning goal as he rounded Jamie Power before finishing to the net.
Tullogher had goal chances in the first 30 minutes with Danny Glennon flicking a shot wide in addition to Andrew Murphy pointing when going for goal and they were left trailing with Conor Farrell knocking over six points in the opening quarter as the Shock led 0-7 to 0-4.
Tullogher had points from Walter Walsh, Jamie Lyng and Danny Glennon to tap away at the scoreboard and Leigh O’Brien’s team really took contol when knocking over six points without reply before the break.
That left Tullogher 0-12 to 0-10 to the good at the break but Carrickshock gradually reeled the deficit in with Farrell continuing to knock over the frees and and Eoghan O’Neill and Jake O’Dwyer contributing from play.
By the halfway mark of the half, the sides were deadlocked at 0-14 apiece but Tullogher soon regained control Walter Walsh twice finding the target either side of Jamie Lyng’s fourth point of the day.
With further scores via Danny Glennon and Sean Hanrahan, Tullogher looked like they had done enough to advance but a late Carrickshock rally rocked the winners with back to back points from Farrell and Mikey Rohan arriving before Farrell levlled the contest when blasting a 21-yard free to the net.
The extra-time was every bit as dramatic as the normal time with Carrickshock taking the initative to start with on the back of Conor Farrell maintaining his excellence in front of goal that saw him finish with 1-14 in total.
Padraig Lennon, Brian Donovan and Eanna Martin also pointed from play but Tullogher refused to yield with points from Andrew Murphy and Danny Glennon levelling up matters late on.
Penalties looked a possibility before Michael Rice rolled back the years when pointing Shock ahead but that still wasn’t enough with Glennon having the last say as Tullogher ran out two point winners.
