Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford to join forces for unique event in 2027

The initiative will explore the shared Norman heritage of Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford
Kilkenny County Council is joining forces with Waterford City and County Council and Wexford County Council to develop a major new cultural initiative as part of the 2027 Year of the Normans celebrations.
The three local authorities have secured funding of more than €16,000 to create the “Three Sisters Programme”, a cross-county project centred around the region’s historic waterways (the Rivers Barrow, Nore and Suir).
The initiative will explore the shared Norman heritage of Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford, focusing on the rivers that once served as vital navigation and trade routes linking the three counties during Norman times.
The programme aims to celebrate the region’s rich history through a series of community-led events and projects highlighting the connections between local built, cultural and natural heritage.
It will form part of wider preparations for the 2027 Year of the Normans, a national commemoration expected to shine a spotlight on the lasting impact of Norman influence across Ireland.
Further details on events and public participation opportunities are expected to be announced as planning for the programme progresses.
