Mags Whitely as Big Maggie
Barn Owl Productions is delighted to announce its upcoming production of Big Maggie by John B. Keane, coming to the stage of Thomastown Concert Hall in mid-February.
One of Keane’s most powerful and provocative plays, Big Maggie will be presented with fresh energy and a reinvigorated artistic vision, bringing this landmark Irish drama to local audiences once again.
The production boasts a strong and familiar cast, with Mags Whitely, Megan Kelly, and Nicola Ryan among those coming to the Thomastown stage. Barn Owl Productions continues to build on its reputation for high-quality, compelling theatre, following the company’s highly praised staging of The McGowan Trilogy by Seamus Scanlon, also performed in Thomastown.
Directing Big Maggie is Philip Hardy, who joins Barn Owl Productions following Barnstorm Theatre Company’s highly successful run of Sive by John B. Keane at the Watergate Theatre.

Speaking about the upcoming production, Hardy said:
“It’s a privilege to return to the world of John B. Keane so soon after the rewarding experience of staging Sive. Big Maggie is a tremendous challenge, rich, bold, and emotionally complex, and I’m excited to bring this story to life with such a dedicated group of actors and creatives. We are looking forward to building on the momentum of the last production and delivering a show that audiences will truly connect with.”
While excitement is building for the production itself, Barn Owl Productions is holding a top-class fundraising raffle, which offers supporters a chance to win three exceptional prizes while directly supporting the staging of Big Maggie.
The company is deeply grateful to its generous donors. The Ashe Hotel in Kerry has donated a fantastic one-night dinner, bed and breakfast for two. The Ashe Hotel is currently shortlisted for four Gold Awards and Boutique Hotel of the Year, making this a truly standout prize. Tabú Tapas Restaurant has kindly contributed a meal voucher worth €80, perfect for a special night out. Completing the prize lineup is a wonderful offering from award-winning Mount Juliet Estate, Kilkenny, which has donated a
voucher for Afternoon Tea for two adults and two children in the Manor House - a luxurious and family-friendly experience.
A ticket costs just €20, and each ticket is entered into all three raffles - meaning entrants have the chance to win all three prizes. It’s an exceptional opportunity to enjoy incredible rewards while supporting local theatre.
Barn Owl Productions is proud of the community support behind Big Maggie and extends sincere thanks to all donors and supporters. With a powerful play, an experienced creative team, and a raffle packed with outstanding prizes, mid-February promises to be an exciting time at Thomastown Concert Hall.
