Lake Productions is set to bring Conor McPherson’s modern classic The Weir to Thomastown’s Concert Hall this March, promising an intimate, haunting and darkly funny theatrical experience that lingers long after the lights fade.
Directed by Darren Donohoe, The Weir is a masterclass in Irish storytelling — a play where humour, loneliness, folklore and the supernatural quietly intertwine.
On a stormy night in a rural Irish pub, five strangers gather. Drinks are poured. Stories are told. And something shifts.
Set in a small country pub, the play unfolds through a series of conversations and ghost stories that slowly reveal the inner lives of its characters, building toward a final moment of unexpected emotional force.
The production stars a strong ensemble cast of some of Kilkenny’s finest actors including Ger Cody, Niall Morrisey, Derek Dooley, Joe Murray and Anne Murray, whose performances bring warmth, wit and vulnerability to McPherson’s beautifully crafted script.
With its naturalistic dialogue and deep sense of place, The Weir feels both timeless and urgently human.
Lake Productions has built a reputation for thoughtful, high-quality theatre, and this staging of The Weir leans into the play’s intimacy — placing audiences right at the heart of the pub, the stories and the silences in between.
Pull up a chair, settle in, and listen closely — some stories refuse to stay buried. The Weir is widely recognised as a masterpiece and a modern classic by one of Ireland’s most talented contemporary writers. The play resonates with audiences long after the curtain falls on the stage.
Performances run at Thomastown’s Concert Hall from March 12 to 14 and March 19 to 21. Tickets are available via Eventbrite or by phoning (083) 325 0617.
Early booking is advisable.
