Two Kilkenny athletes will test themselves against the world’s best in September.
Kilkenny City Harriers duo Peter Lynch and Cliodhna Manning have been selected by Athletics Ireland for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Lynch, who is coached by Alistair Cragg, will compete in the men’s marathon. He will be hoping to build on the form which saw him set a new national 10 mile time in Washington before breaking the Irish national record in Dusseldorf in April.

Manning, who is coached by Peter Lyons, has been named in the women’s 4x400m relay team, joining Sophie Becker, Rachel McCann, Sharlene Mawdsley, Michelle Duggan and Jenna Breen. It will be her second time travelling to Japan after she was selected on the Irish team for the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.

The Harriers pair are just part of a team featuring a number of World and European medallists, as well as Olympians, who will compete in championships at the Japan National Stadium from September 13 to September 21. Among the line-up are Sarah Healy (Women’s 1500m), Kate O’Connor (Women’s Heptathlon), Mark English (Men’s 800m) and Nicola Tuthill (Hammer).
