Iconic Kilkenny sports shop announce 'closing sale' as major changes confirmed

Long-standing local business, Hennessy Sports have announced their decision to 'focus and specialise' their services to designing trophies and medals.

Founded in 1977 by the late, great Eamon Hennessy, the iconic sports shop has operated in the locality for nearly five decades holding a number of different premises in that time, most recently in the Newpark Shopping Centre.

However, owners now feel the time is right to transition to another chapter in the store's history.

"Over the years, our shop has moved through several locations - from Parliament Street to Newpark Shopping Centre - adapting to the needs of our customers and the changing retail landscape," the store posted online.

"With the continued evolution of the sports retail market, we have made an important business decision to focus and specialise our services," they added.

"This is an area of the business that we have a half century of experience in and one in which we have built up a network of many great manufacturers, suppliers and customers. This change will enable us to offer greater focus, efficiency and quality for our longstanding customers and new customers alike.

"We will proudly continue to serve every sport nationally," the post continued, adding, "thank you for your continued support and loyalty as we take this exciting new step. We look forward to serving you with the same passion and commitment—now with a specialised focus that allows us to deliver with greater efficiency and quality."
