Ireland has one of the lowest employment rates for people with disabilities in Europe
Kilkenny businesses are being urged to join more than 75 organisations committed to creating inclusive workplaces for people with disabilities.
The More Than a Job campaign, led by Rehab Group, has over 75 businesses, including key organisations like the Health Service Executive (HSE), SIPTU, Cook Medical, Chadwicks, SMEs and several voluntary organisations now backing the initiative.
The organisations are committed to creating more inclusive, supportive workplaces for people with disabilities, where employment goes beyond a salary.

The More Than a Job initiative is designed so that access to employment is fair, flexible and genuinely open to everyone. By signing up, businesses are not only pledging to offer competitive salaries but also a commitment to providing flexible, inclusive workplaces for people with disabilities. Developed in response to the growing number of disabled people locked out of the labour market, the campaign asks employers to rethink how they hire, train and support staff. The goal is simple: to make work possible for people who have the ability and desire to contribute, but who rarely get the chance.
Finbarr Murray, Interim CEO of Rehab Group said: "Ireland has one of the lowest employment rates for people with disabilities in Europe, we want to change that. We are delighted to see so many organisations, including one of the country’s biggest employers, the HSE, supporting this important cause. The campaign, which began on International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd, demonstrates the power of collaboration and a shared commitment to providing meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities."
“With the campaign continuing to grow, businesses and organisations of all sizes are being invited to get involved. Whether you're a major corporate, a local retailer or a community-based organisation, there’s an open invitation for you to sign up and be part of a movement that’s about making work more meaningful for everyone.”

"We believe businesses have a significant role in shaping the lives of their employees," Murray added. "By joining More Than a Job, companies not only help create an inclusive work environment but also make a lasting positive impact on their communities."
