Central Takeaway, a cultural institution in Thomastown, have announced that they will be closing soon after more than four decades serving the town and its environs, through multiple generations.
"It's with a heavy heart we have to write this," the takeaway posted on social media.
"Its a decision that did not come lightly, one of the hardest decisions we had to make.

"Central Takeaway will be closing on February 28, 2026. Due to family life and running a business, it's become impossible to do both.
"As for my kids, they are getting older and I'm taking time that they need away from them to run a business.
"So I have chosen to close to be at home with my family. In saying that we would like to thank each and every person who has walked through our door.
"Be it new customers or lifelong ones, staff, without each and every one of you we would not have been able to be in business for the last 45 years.
"Being a part of this community has been an absolute pleasure that we will miss dearly - from the chats, the craic, the stories the hard times and the changes, thesr are things we will carry with us for the rest of our lives.
"So with that, thank you for all your support and custom over the last 45 years. We will miss you all. From Bruno, Stasia, Sonia, Darren, and all the staff in Central Takeaway."
Amongst those reacting to the announcement was Thomastown Camogie Club, who have received a lot of support and sponsorship from the chipper over the years.
"Thomastown Camogie would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Sonia in Central Takeaway for all of the years of support and sponsorship that she has provided to the camogie players of Thomastown," a statement reads.

"Sonia played camogie herself with Thomastown and her girls are and will be a huge part of the underage structure.
"Whenever our teams had any celebrations Sonia and Central Takeaway Thomastown would always ensure that the food was always covered.
"Central Takeaway will be greatly missed in Market Street. We thank you Sonia and we wish you and your family the best of luck in the future!"
Thomastown Community Network also reacted to the news by stating that "it's always very sad to see a business closing in town."
"Best wishes to everyone at Central Takeaway," they added.
Since the announcement, an outpouring of messages have been posted on social media with people sad to hear the announcement but hugely understanding, and wishing those behind the business well.
One person commented: "Sorry to hear that all the best, I've been going to Central Takeaway for years, it's hard to see it go, but family comes first, wishing you all the best.".

Another stated: "Another sad day in Thomastown with the closure of another long established family business. Wishing all of you the very best, Sonia Borza & co, and a happy & healthy future. Look forward to maybe seeing you around more now."
The impact the closure will also have on the town was also to the fore, with one commenter summing it up succinctly: "Have to say this one hits home. Used to get a Bruno’s with my nanny and always had one on Christmas Eve with my family. It’s not just a takeaway it’s a part of the town. Place will be sorely missed by everyone. But all good things must come to an end! It’s been a pleasure to have gotten food off Bruno, Stasia, Sonia and the crew."
Central Takeaway will be more than happy to welcome customers right up until their final closing date on February 28, so if you fancy a takeaway and want to support a business that has given incredible service to their community, make sure to call in!
