A small business network in Kilkenny is holding a business expo to let the local community know just what is available to them.

Paulstown Business Expo will be showcasing more than 20 businesses that are located in the area, at the event this Sunday.

“Sometimes we can’t see the wood for the trees when it comes to services and products available close to home,” said Valerie Tobin who is helping to organise the event.

An ISME survey revealed that for every €10 spent locally on Irish products, this generates more than €40 of benefit to the local community in terms of employment. Clients save their time and travel costs when shopping locally.

“And to top it all, isn’t it hard to beat the personal touch and friendly neighbourly banter and chat when you shop within your community?”

The expo has been the aim of months of work by the new, local business network. Formed earlier this year, it came from work Valerie was doing with the Paulstown Development Association.

As she interacted with businesses in her volunteer role, Valerie saw many have the same questions, difficulties and clientele so it made sense for them to share information and support through a network.

Since the spring the network has had monthly meetings where there has been mentoring as well as presentations from the Local Enterprise Board and Kilkenny Leader.

“All of us have been supporting, mentoring and advising each other,” Valerie said.

The expo is the culmination of this coming together, the businesses now presenting themselves to the local community. And they really hope people will come along to meet them.

Paulstown is a small place, with not many shops, but there are many businesses located in the area, many of them mobile, Valerie pointed out.

Paulstown Development Association are kindly providing the venue for this event.

If you’ve been wondering what services and products can be sourced in the Paulstown area – then this is the show to attend.

From garden maintenance to kinesiology, cake making to holistic massage, chiropody to carpentry – and much more besides – there is lots to explore for Paulstown customers. New businesses and those more established will all be included.

All places at the expo have now been taken up, but any local business that would like to join the network is encouraged to contact Paulstown Development Association.

Doors open at Paulstown Community Hall at 3pm on Sunday, October 22. Entry is free of charge. When the doors open people are welcome to come and have a look to see what’s going on in Paulstown.

More information will be posted on the Instagram and Facebook pages of Paulstown Development Association.
