Plans for a new supermarket in Castlecomer remain on hold due to a backlog at An Bord Pleanala.
More than a year after initial planning permission was granted by Kilkenny County Council to Greenstripe Ltd for the construction of an Aldi supermarket on the former Glanbia site in Castlecomer, a final decision is still awaited.

The appeal against the development was lodged last March.
An Bord Pleanala was due to make a decision on the appeal by July 12, 2021, however a backlog in work was caused by Covid restrictions.

This week, a spokesperson for An Bord Pleanala confirmed the file is still with an inspector. When the file is complete it will go to the Bord for adjudication. No indication has been given when this might happen.
Last November Aldi confirmed plans for a new store in Castlecomer as part of a €320 million Irish expansion drive that will see Aldi open 30 new stores across the country.
