Local volunteers gave up their time on Christmas Day to deliver food to many Kilkenny people living alone

Christmas Day Heroes - Kilkenny volunteers serve up meals for those in need

Over 100 meals were delivered to those in need across Kilkenny on Christmas Day, as members of the Defence Forces, the Lions Club and 30 other volunteers teamed up for the admirable cause.

Voluntary Co-Ordinator Joe Malone thanked everybody involved from James Stephens Barracks including Sargeant John Sheridan and Lieutenant Colonel Rob Kearney who were heavily involved in the initiative.

Over the course of this month, the Lions Club, the mayor's office and many more have taken part in a number of charitable causes locally.

Thousands of euro has been raised for the annual 'Mayor's Annual Christmas Charity Fundraiser' in aid of the Kilkenny Lions Club Christmas Hamper Appeal as well as the Hamper Appeal's Christmas Auction run in association with the Kilkenny People and KCLR.
