Gardaí in Kilkenny recently issued a statement denouncing violence 'motivated by hate' in light of a recent incident and a feature on the topic that was broadcast by RTÉ.
"Our national broadcaster aired a feature focusing on racism and hate in Ireland spurred on by activists who peddle fear of the unknown," a garda spokesperson said.
"Members of the Indian community were featured who feared attacks and abuse. The programme retold the known fact that it it is the nurses and doctors from India and Pakistan that aid us when we are sick.
"Racism and xenophobia lead to intolerance and fear but their message only flourishes when we forget our core values. All violence is ugly but when it's motivated by hate it is more foul.

"The most optimistic note of the piece was that it is only a very small contingent who make a massive noise."
