Women sentenced to nine months in prison for Kilkenny thefts

A woman who pleaded guilty to two counts of theft was sentenced to nine months in prison at Kilkenny District Court.

Anne Marie Kennedy, 28 Boherduff Close, Clonmel admitted stealing cigarettes from a retail premises on Ormonde Street on January 30, 2025 and to stealing a hoover from DID Electrical, Kilkenny Ring Road on August 16, 2023. The court heard that on the date in question she entered the store with another person and picked up the hoover and left the store without paying for it.

The defendant has 43 previous convictions, including 34 theft matters.

Solicitor Chris Hogan said that his client wished to apologise to the court and added that she is currently serving a sentence at the Dochas Prison.

Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted the defendant and imposed a nine-month sentence to run consecutively.
